- The Kaleidoscope Tree
The Kaleidoscope Tree
Originally a plainly carved piece of unremarkable cherry wood. Simple, well done, and depicting a forest barren of leaves.
I chose to paint color and patterns on this found piece of art to represent a feeling of loss of control during a period of tumultuous change in my life. This piece represents the suffering weight of changing responsibilities, and constant struggle with overstimulation and the noise of the world. I am playing with patterns and contrasting colors via a rule based method to translate hardship into visual tension that causes the viewers eye to dance playfully around.
I originally discovered the wooden piece in a church donation pile. It has a heavy weight to it and is framed to hang prominently with an all black gloss wooden frame. The piece is 12" x 12" and painted with Golden Acrylic paints, and Mitsubishi Posca paint marker. The painting is sealed with a shiny gloss lacquer giving it a beautiful professional quality finish.
